# Logging Repair Activities The Activity Log
Every meaningful event on a workshop unit should be logged as a repair activity. The activity log serves as the complete work record useful for internal review, warranty claims, chargeback disputes, and quality audits.
How to Log a Repair Activity
From either the Maintenance Tracker (⋯ → Log Activity) or the Unit Repair Detail page (Log Repair Activity button):
Activity Types
| Type | When to Use | Special Fields |
|---|---|---|
| Progress Update | General update on ongoing repair work | None |
| Damage Assessment | First inspection, or when additional damage is found | Damage types + Severity |
| Repair Work | Logging specific repair labor | Labor hours, Cost |
| Parts Issued | When parts are used | Parts list |
| Quality Check | Final or interim inspection | Pass / Fail + Photos |
| General Inspection | Non-final inspection, safety check | None |
| Status Change | Moving to a different pipeline stage | New Status dropdown |
Parts Room Issuing Parts Against a Repair
When logging any repair activity, a Parts Used (Parts Room) section appears. This is connected live to your Fleet Parts Inventory.
To add a part:
- On-hand quantity decrements in real time
- A stock movement record is created (type: `issue`)
- A `maintenance_update_parts` record links the part to this activity
- The unit's part cost total updates in the Cost Summary
